From Raw Material to Finished Frame

Most of a testing machine is decided long before the control cabinet is wired: it is decided by how the frame and the moving parts are machined. A short walk through our machining floor.

Frame and column

Column faces are milled in one set-up so that the two columns of a tensile frame stay parallel over their full travel. A column that is out of parallel by a few hundredths loads the specimen off-axis, and the resulting bending shows up as a lower apparent strength.

Guides and fixtures

Guide rails, platens and grips are machined on the same floor and inspected before assembly. Fixture geometry matters more than most buyers expect: a grip that slips by a fraction of a millimetre will fail a specimen at the jaws long before the material reaches its real limit.

From part to machine

Having machining and assembly under one roof shortens the loop when a non-standard fixture is needed. A custom platen for an unusual sample can be drawn, cut and fitted without sending the job to a third party — usually the difference between a two-week and a two-month lead time.
