Appliance Maker Halves Drop-Test Turnaround

Customer: A home-appliance contract manufacturer producing vacuum cleaners and small kitchen appliances for export (anonymity requested).

Challenge: Drop testing was performed on a single-arm machine shared with three other product lines. With ISTA 3A and GB/T 4857.5 routines to run on cartons from 3 kg to 30 kg, queueing pushed a full qualification round past a week, and operators had to re-zero the height sensor between every package size.

Solution: A dual-column drop test machine with motorised height setting, a 1,200 mm maximum drop and a pneumatic release that keeps the specimen level at release. A second, smaller single-arm unit was kept for the light cartons, so the two machines now split the workload by package weight.

Result: A complete corner-face-edge matrix on one carton size now runs in under an hour; the qualification round that previously spanned a week is closed in two days. Height repeatability is maintained at ±1 mm without re-calibration between samples, which removed the main source of retests.
